In-home dates

Have you ever heard of an “artist date?”
Me neither, until about 6 weeks ago.
I was at The Copywriter Club in Real Life event (I recorded a video about a few of my takeaways here), and Marcella Allison gave a talk about creativity.
If you’re unfamiliar with Marcella, she is a gem of a person. She’s vibrant, full of energy, and never boring…
And she’s also an incredible copywriter.
Anyway, Marcella introduced this concept of “artist dates,” which I thought was very interesting.
I don’t remember all the exact details of her talk, but here’s what I wrote in my notebook about artist dates:
“Something that engages all of your senses.”
Marcella gave the example of traveling somewhere with her husband and going to museums and out to eat at restaurants, etc.
Basically, just something that encourages you to be in the present moment and focus on your experience. Something that gives you a new perspective. Something that fills up your creativity tank.
I really like that idea.
For example…
Last night, I watched a Wes Anderson movie — The Grand Budapest Hotel. (If you’ve never seen it, it gets two thumbs up from me.)
And yesterday, I downloaded Dune — which I’ve heard is an absolute banger of a book — on Kindle and started reading it.
So if you’re feeling bored or burnt out at work or whatever else…
Read a novel. Watch a movie. Make a meal you’ve never tried before.
Take yourself on an in-home date. You deserve it.
