Urgent

So here’s a confession:
I rarely answer my phone.
Unless it’s one of my roommates or someone who needs something from me immediately…
I’m probably gonna wait and call them back later…
Or text them…
Or if I’m being completely honest — sometimes I don’t call back at all.
(It’s not the best quality to have, I know.)
So this morning, when my phone jolted me out of sleep, I did what I’m good at:
Not answering.
But then I noticed something.
It was my friend Skylar, who doesn’t live in Nashville — but visits here sometimes.
My first thought was something like:
“Oh shit… what if she was in a wreck and needs my help?”
So I did the thing that I rarely do…
I called her back immediately.
And the reason I called back so quickly illustrates an important marketing lesson:
If you want someone’s attention — it helps to make them curious… and to position your offer as urgent (as long as it’s real urgency and not the fake stuff).
If Skylar had called me later in the day…
Or if there was no possible way she could be in Nashville or need my help…
Then I wouldn’t have called her back so quickly.
But since I was worried (curious) about her situation… and I thought she might need my help (urgently)…
I took action immediately.
Just something to keep in mind for your next project.
Robert
P.S. Oh — and Skylar was totally fine. She was just calling to catch up, because she had an hour-long drive ahead of her.
